In this ritual, the horoscope of marathi bride and groom are matched before further proceedings. This ritual was more important when weddings used to be fixed by parents. Once the horoscope matching is done, the priest sets an auspicious date and time for the wedding and other pre wedding rituals.

This is the beginning of wedding rituals after horoscope matching is done. It is basically an engagement or roka ceremony which makes everything official. In this ceremony , groom’s mother applies haldi-kumkum to bride’s forehead and gives her blessings and gifts with some sweets and sakhar puda. Bride’s mother also does the same with groom. After this, the couple exchanges engagement rings.

Once the engagement ceremony is done, all the wedding preparations began officially before months. The mother of the bride invite five Suhaasanis (married women) and they together grind turmeric , pulses and spices and roll papads. After this ,shopping begins, and ‘rukhvat’ ritual is also held where bridal trousseau, utensils and sweets are displayed.
