The Lakme Fashion Week started with its opening day on the 11th of Feb 2020. That was indeed a grand opening event that was unique in its own way. On day 2 it was scheduled with many amazing events and runway walks of fashion models and distinguished celebrities.
A challenge took place of question-answer with the five participants included Mallika Reddy, Varsha Rani Solanki, Susmith and Zuzana, Esha Agarwal and Gargi Gopal. The challenge was all about making the designs used by natural materials. This was an inspirational challenge to drop the consideration more towards minimizing the wastage.
Ashdeen Z, worked with Parsi Gara embroidery in which he has extensive experience as he worked a lot with this fabric in his previous designs. He used his team of 150craftsmen from Delhi to make this outstanding collection. He coined his collection as 'Memories on Cloth' that is inspired by his childhood memories of growing up in the Parsi family. His Parsi Gara embroidery on fine fabrics like silk, organza and net made the collection even more unique.
On the other hand, a fusion was evidenced in the show and that was by Tantajo, a brand by Rajib Debnath from Bengal and the Bangalore based high fashion label, House of Three. The collection was a perfect blend of Cotton Muslin Jamdani of Bengal with Silk Kanjivarams of Tamil Nadu. The showstopper for the collection was 'Rang De Basanti' famed actor Siddharth, and actress-singer Saba Azad.
To make awareness an event was also held by PETA( People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), an American animal rights organization that works for animal rights. It came up forward on the LFW's platforms with the voice of Sunny Leone
A specifically 'made for summer' collection that was inspired by the colorfulness and freshness of summers. It was a collection motivating the endless boundaries of fashion for everyone irrespective of their age and size. For this collection of the designer Mandeep Nagi, there were nine women who became the showstopper of the show.
With the team of talented weavers from Mahadevpura, Narayanpet, and Pochampally, the designs were made to impose the idea of minimum wastage while considering handloom designs for everyday purposes. Sania Mirza became the showstopper for the collection and turned millions of heads for her with her warm smile and with the beautiful design by Rina Singh on the third day of Lakme Fashion Week 2020. She wore an ethnic long grey kurta of abstract print.
It was a collection of four stories infused in the designs by Ritu Kumar and Lenzing Ecoverco. These four stories were- Neo Origami, Flora & Fauna, Sundarvan, and Mrinalini Mukherjee. On sustainability day of Lakme Fashion Week 2020, Aditi Rao Hydari walked on the runway as the showstopper of Ritu Kumar designs. It was a stunning ensemble that grabbed lots of eyeballs towards her.
